LASCOFED Celebrates Graduates and Unveils Ultra-Modern Training Centre
Lagos, August 6, 2024 – The Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED) marked a significant milestone with a dual celebration: the graduation of student of the Cooperative Management Training and the commissioning of the new LASCOFED Training and Development Centre Building. The event, held at the LASCOFED Multipurpose Hall in Ogba, Lagos, attracted prominent figures from the cooperative sector and government dignitaries.
Honoring the Graduates
The day began with a graduation ceremony for 52 students from the LASCOFED Training and Development Centre, with their successful completion of the Cooperative Management program.
In his congratulatory remarks, LASCOFED President Barrister Oladipo Shobule praised the graduates for their dedication. “Today, we celebrate the culmination of countless late-night study sessions and early morning classes,” Shobule remarked, acknowledging the hard work and sacrifices made. He stressed that the training they received goes beyond academic achievements; it has prepared them as future leaders in the cooperative movement.
Shobule encouraged the graduates to carry the same commitment into their future roles. “Armed with the knowledge and skills gained here, you are well-equipped to lead and make meaningful contributions to your cooperative societies and organizations,” he said.
The LASCOFED Training Centre, accredited by the Nigerian Centre for Management Development (NCMD), offers programs designed to strengthen leadership, management, and entrepreneurial skills. Shobule invited cooperative societies and corporate organizations to take advantage of the Centre’s specialized training opportunities.
Commissioning of the New Training Centre
Following the graduation, attention shifted to the official commissioning of the new LASCOFED Training and Development Centre Building. The Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, Cooperatives, and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebemm, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olugbemiga Ayoola Aina, led the commissioning.
Dr. Aina commended LASCOFED’s achievements under Shobule’s leadership, noting that the new facility symbolizes the Federation’s commitment to advancing cooperative education. He praised the Federation’s strategic foresight and the successful execution of the project, which will serve as a key resource for cooperative development in Lagos State.
Barrister Shobule expressed gratitude to the Ministry and other stakeholders for their support. He described the new three-story building, which includes a 200-seater multipurpose hall, lecture rooms, office spaces, and a restaurant, as a significant boost to cooperative education. “This Ultra-Modern Training Centre was built to offer a conducive learning environment for both cooperators and non-cooperators alike,” he said.
The project was funded through internal generated revenue. Shobule attributed the project’s success to the spirit of cooperation, thanking the Board, Project and Finance Committees, and the building consultants for their professionalism and dedication.
A Vision for the Future
The commissioning of the new training facility, combined with the graduation of another cohort of cooperative leaders, represents a new chapter in LASCOFED’s mission to promote cooperative education and development. President Shobule emphasized that this achievement marks just the beginning. He called for continued support and collaboration from all stakeholders as LASCOFED pursues even greater heights.
The day’s events highlighted LASCOFED’s pivotal role in advancing the cooperative movement in Lagos State. With the new Training and Development Centre in place, LASCOFED is well-positioned to continue its tradition of excellence, empowering individuals to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.
