WELCOME ADDRESS DELIVERED BY LASCOFED PRESIDENT, BARR. OLADIPO SHOBULE, AT THE 2020 INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE DAY CELEBRATIONS HELD ON 19TH FEBRUARY, 2021 AT LASCOFED MULTIPURPOSE HALL, OGBA, LAGOS.
First and Foremost, I thank God Almighty for the privilege to stand here to address you on the occasion of the celebration of year 2020 International Cooperative Day; a day set aside by the United Nations and International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) for the celebration of the successes and contributions of the Cooperative Movement.
On behalf of the Board of Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED), I join the leadership of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives to welcome you all on this occasion.
We appreciate the thoughtfulness of the leadership of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives for deeming it fit to observe the year 2020 International Cooperative Day, which could not hold last year due to the restrictions imposed by the government as a result of Covid-19 pandemic and the nationwide EndSARS protest.
The 2020 International Cooperative Day, themed COOPS 4 CLIMATE ACTION, focused on the contribution of cooperatives to combating climate change, which is one of the most severe challenges of this time. The climate is unpredictable these days and requires contributions of all and sundry, cooperatives inclusive, towards achieving a better climate.
We are well aware that the world is currently experiencing the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, a deadly virus that has killed millions worldwide. This has consequently changed the narrative of economies, lifestyles and ways of doing businesses. While the pandemic persists, Cooperatives are therefore admonished to adopt other means of doing businesses to ensure continuity in operations and still make certain the directives of the government on Covid-19 restrictions are observed.
Once again, I welcome you all and wish you happy celebrations.
Cooperative…Oneness
Cooperative…Power
Cooperative…Progress
