LASCOFED PRESIDENT-IN-COUNCIL HOSTS TOWN HALL MEETINGS WITH MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE UNIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS
In a bid to strengthen ties within the cooperative sector, the newly elected President-in-Council of the Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED), led by Barrister Oladipo Shobule, has launched a series of town hall meetings with all 24 Multipurpose Cooperative Unions (MCUs) and Cooperative Associations.
These meetings come on the heels of the President-in-Council’s swearing-in ceremony and are part of the new leadership’s strategic effort to deepen engagement with cooperative societies across the state. The primary focus of the sessions is to enhance cooperation between LASCOFED and its members while educating cooperators about the roles and responsibilities of the federation.
The gatherings have provided an open platform for cooperative societies to voice their concerns, share challenges, and outline their expectations from LASCOFED. A variety of key topics have emerged during discussions, including the need to explore business opportunities that foster wealth creation within the cooperative movement. Additionally, compliance with cooperative laws and regulations, as well as the promotion of internal dialogue mechanisms for effective dispute resolution, were highlighted.
Another important issue raised was the inclusion of youth and women in the cooperative movement, which is seen as crucial for sustaining the future of cooperative societies.
Barrister Shobule emphasized that these town hall meetings are part of LASCOFED’s commitment to fostering closer relationships with its members, promoting transparency, and building a more inclusive and prosperous cooperative sector in Lagos State.
The initiative has been well received, with many cooperators expressing optimism about the future of the cooperative movement under the new leadership.
